The September 29, 2002, edition of the Athens Banner-Herald carried a headline article about two fatalities on U S 441 South in Oconee County.

.

There have been numerous deaths on this highway over the last 20-30 years.   It was built for another time in the 30’s and 40’s.   It has too many curves and hills for such an important Artery.   It is a major route from South Georgia to Northeast Georgia.

.

Officials in Morgan and Oconee and area legislators need to ‘get behind’ the 441 South Widening project.    How many deaths does it take to get the appropriate attention and support?
