David Sherrill Oaks was raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama and Athens, Georgia. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Since retirement, he has been involved in efforts to promote the history of the Appalachian region. David stays busy as a volunteer for various organizations such as the historic Netherland Inn, The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association, and The Kingsport Chamber of Commerce. He is a former president of the Kingsport Kiwanis Club, former chairman of The Bays Mountain Commission and is serving as a "Mayor's Steward" for the development effort along the banks of the historic Holston River. He and wife, "Bunky," currently reside in Kingsport, Tennessee, and make occasional visits to their mountain lake house in Rabun County, Georgia. Their son lives in Wilmington, North Carolina. David is working on his second novel.

If you love historical fiction, Misty Misty Morn is a true find! The Adam Sherrill family of Williamsburg, Virginia, travel west in the early 1700's to establish their own home and raise a family. They meet with adventure, tragedy, floods, Indians and people of strange and unknown origins in their trek across the original old west. This, old west is known today as western North Carolina and includes the lands that later became Tennessee. This fast-paced story of adventure and discovery includes colorful, unforgettable characters, many of whom have descendants still living in the same region of the country today. Life on the frontier was harsh and unforgiving and this is a vivid account of the men and women who had the fortitude and unwavering tenacity to explore a wilderness and call it home. It's all here: the hardships, language barriers, forged friendships with people from different cultures, the clash of good vs, evil, romance, and stories of true heroes. To know these early pioneers is to better understand the soul of those who came before us. Author David Sherrill Oaks is a direct descendant of Adam Sherrill and documents this account of his family's early history in a riveting, entertaining style. Adam Sherrill, and men like him, helped to build a nation Mr. Oaks has recorded for us a living picture of the result. Step into this book for a step back in time into the Misty Misty Morn.

Misty Misty Morn is a haunting tale entwined around two cultures in post-Colonial America. The reader is enticed along a trail of discovery, friendship, love, learned tolerance, and spirituality by author David Oak's poetic treatise. One cannot experience this book and then walk through a forest, or life itself, without pondering, "What did I do to deserve this?" A rewarding and wonderful read.

David's love of history and admiration for strong characters fill his narrative.

A good read!

Wendell,

The book is about my 6th great grandfather, Adam Sherrill, and his efforts to establish a homestead and interact with the natives in the NC-TN region.  Takes place in 1729.  My second book, currently working on it, is about how he left and came back to the original place in 1747 and was given the first land grant west of the Catawba in 1749 plus my 5th great-grandfather's and uncles in the Battle of Kings Mountain.

Mom did a lot of work on our genealogy a number of years ago and that is what got me started on this writing journey.

I hope you enjoy it.  …….

My thought is to do a book signing in Athens B&N and Books-a-Million sometime this summer.  That is a positive way of saying Bunky will be leaping tall buildings in a single bound by then.

David
