OCONEE TAXPAYER….. I personally have a problem with this Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and BOE, school administrators all being the same people looking out for each other at the expense of the community as a whole………….

School Administrative Salaries for Counties contiguous to Oconee County
.
By Wendell Dawson, Editor, AVOC, Inc
.
From time to time, AVOC is tipped to interesting information. Often, one hears about the County School System and its administration. Recent tips about pay raises for Administrators were revealing. Some reactions have been disbelief about the amounts and qualifications of some of the folks in higher pay ranges.
.
AVOC was advised that a “retirement tradition” with State Employees is to get a big raise a few months before the effective retirement date. This allows a higher retirement pension. Many state retirement pensions are exceptionally favorable to the retiree.Such information should be available to taxpayers. One can get significant information at the website of the Department of Audits. https://www.audits.state.ga.us/internet/
.
Open and transparent government would help monitor salaries over which the Legislature has little influence. The media could do better in reporting these situations.

It seems the veil of secrecy is not limited to the BOC, the following attachments came my way and thought you would find it somewhat interesting and disappointing; thanks for sharing your insight and looking out for the average everyday taxpayer.

………… the concern was why suddenly the raises are for administrators now a sudden priority, when we are told taxes are going up because of increased enrollment but nothing about over a quarter million in admin raises. This does not include the number of additional central office positions that have been added since 2005-2006. The teachers are told when they question supplements or benefits that if they don't like it there are tons of people waiting to take their place, won't this be the same for an administration position.

Here's a …..sampling of Principals that I came up with, the only one comparable is Walton which is also the highest teaching pay with a 6% supplement, every other district the majority of $ 100,000 employees have doctoral degrees which none of Oconee Principals have. You have to remember Oconee Schools do not deal with the issues the other surrounding districts do.
