Tom Leach to be Write-In Candidate opposing Melvin Davis in General Election
.
By Wendell Dawson, Editor, AVOC, Inc
.
AVOC has had several messages today that Tom Leach will file as a ‘Write In” candidate against Melvin Davis in the Fall. He is garnering support from folks unhappy with the Beer & Wine Vote and with Melvin Davis in general.
.
As of Noon, today he had not officially filed his affidavit with the Board of Elections or run his ad in the newspaper. The Oconee Enterprise posted an announcement article online at 10:06 AM this morning.
.
I dealt with Mr. Leach some when I was BOC Chairman. He was often critical of me and often said he would run against me. He was active in the Bohlen Independent Candidacy against me in the summer of 2000. In my opinion, Leach lacks the qualifications and stability to handle the job.
.
All that being said, I think Melvin Davis is disliked enough to make the Leach candidacy more than just a quixotic act. It will attract Protest Votes. Who knows, I may write in his name.
.
Odds will favor Melvin Davis because the General Election will attract far more voters than the Primary. Many will vote a straight GOP ticket and that will help Davis as the official GOP nominee. Oconee has voted Republican in General Elections and I expect it to continue for the foreseeable future.
.
However, we still need to bring some humility and spending responsibility to Melvin Davis or “Mr. Chairman”. Tom Leach may help with that endeavor.

Tom Leach to oppose Davis
.
By Blake Giles
.
Tom Leach has announced that he will oppose Melvin Davis as a write-in candidate for county commission chairman during the November general election. . “I am a Christian man,” said Leach, and first and foremost I think Melvin sold us out when he broke the tie on liquor by the drink. I want to give the voters a choice.” . Leach drives a concrete truck. He is the father of four children and has lived in Oconee County most of his adult life. . As a write-in candidate, Leach is required only to notify the Board of Elections and place an ad in the legal organ, The Oconee Enterprise. He is not required to gather names on a petition since he will not be listed on the ballot………………….
