8-27-08 State SAT Scores are lower but three local schools above National Average
Georgia's average score on the SAT college admissions exam fell for the second consecutive year, according to results released Aug. 26, 2008, dropping by six points to 1,466. The national Average was 1,511. Three local High Schools exceeded the national average.

North Oconee HS (1587), Oconee County HS (1557) and Jefferson City HS (1532) were three of 21 area schools that scored above the national average of 1,511. Those systems were joined by Apalachee HS (1475) and Winder-Barrow HS (1478) of Barrow County, along with Madison County HS (1482) & Jackson County HS (1471) as the seven of the 21 that scored above the state average of 1,466.

The state scores will bring on a lot of discussion. It is certain that more money and campaign promises are not making that much progress with national averages and rankings.

Locally, Oconee County can take pride in its two high schools that topped the list in NEGA. All state scores can be found at the AJC Link.

The state's results dropped by six points to 1,466. But the national average held steady at 1,511 -- 45 points higher than Georgia's average, according to the College Board, which administers the test. A perfect score is 2,400.
