National Dems tend to Overreach- complicated by BDS- Bush Derangement Syndrome

.

By Wendell Dawson, Editor, AVOC, Inc

.

Even though I have observed and closely followed national elections since 1952, I must admit to surprise at the mindset and behavior of the left fringe of the Democrat Party.   I use the term “fringe” generously because I agree with a friend who recently said, “There are no Blue Dog Democrats anymore”.     The Democrat Congress has been in lockstep with decisions that challenge our longstanding traditions and values as a nation.

.

Obama comes across as arrogant to many citizens

.

It is unbelievable to me that the UAW is driving the demise of General Motors and Chrysler.    Heavy handed White House tactics with SECURED creditors would have started impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush.

.

I have heard contentions of Obama supporters about how intelligent he is and how charismatic he is.    As a senior citizen, my skepticism has not been alleviated.   I would feel better about him had he served in the military or served as a county commissioner.   His statements about Guantanamo and interrogation tactics have been sophomoric or childishly “Anti-Bush”.   At least he has backpedaled on some of them after learning more facts.   I am not sure he can backtrack on that “Trillion Dollar Stimulus Package” that seems to have long tentacles extending into many areas of our lives.   Time will expose more adverse effects of some of his early actions.

.

Obama has made mistakes which the media, so far, seems to brush over or downright ignore.    The most surprising phenomenon to me is the reaction from Obama advocates to any criticism of Obama.   Any criticism to the left is met by a regurgitation of criticism of George W. Bush.    Zealots can give one the impression that Obama can do no wrong and that the world is saved because Bush is gone  .Other extremists still want to “prosecute” him and members of his administration.

.

Some pundits have coined the term “Bush Derangement Syndrome” to describe the irrationality of many on the left.    This condition seems to be rampant with National Democrats.   They can’t restrain from dumping on Bush at every opportunity.

.

The Left needs to acknowledge that George W. Bush left office on January 20.  Obama is now the President and will make his share of mistakes.   Events are not controlled by the media or a Democrat Congress.    International incidents and many in the United States can change the course of history.   The Dems should be worried about their legacy and future.   They will not be on top forever.

.

Obama blames his predecessor more often than any President in my memory

.

Some on the left should realize that not everyone hates Bush or blames him for all problems.    They also need to pause and think about the fact that a large segment of Americans did not vote for Obama.   A total of 59,946,378 (46%) Americans voted for John McCain, who in my opinion was one of the weakest GOP nominees in recent memory.

.

The Dems got marred in Vietnam and suffered with issues from that war for decades in elections.   They took the White House and Congress in 1992 but overreached and voters changed Congress in 1994.   In time, most voters start looking at results and will not buy excuses or blaming others.   They expect and eventually do correct mistakes.

.

It is hard for me to take Nancy Pelosi seriously yet she is third in line to the Presidency.   The country and its demographics may have changed but I am doubtful that she represents a dominant constituency in this country.   Her BDS condition has led to her insane remarks about the CIA.

.

Nancy Pelosi is a “fit” for San Francisco but not national

.

Time ends all celebrity eventually.   Obama is not the first President for whom many had high expectations and hope.  Jack Kennedy came in with glamour and Camelot and it lasted less than three years.   JFK’s assassination resulted in a mythical view of him.    However, it was “Landslide Lyndon Johnson” who got JFK's  proposals enacted into law.   The Left came to hate him.   The “War on Poverty” brought food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid and many other social programs that are now controversial and, in many cases, have not worked.   We certainly have not defeated poverty over 40 years later.

.

It may take a while but the predictions about the demise of the Republican Party and the permanency of the Liberal Democrats are probably premature.   Time will tell.

Chrysler and the Rule of Law

The Founders put the contracts clause in the Constitution for a reason.

.

By TODD J. ZYWICKI

.

The rule of law, not of men -- an ideal tracing back to the ancient Greeks and well-known to our Founding Fathers -- is the animating principle of the American experiment. While the rest of the world in 1787 was governed by the whims of kings and dukes, the U.S. Constitution was established to circumscribe arbitrary government power. It would do so by establishing clear rules, equally applied to the powerful and the weak……….

The American tried to shrug off the Latin Americans' warning. To his consternation, he found that he couldn't. Peron, Fidel, now Chavez, they insisted. The emergence of misrule, corruption and economic stagnation in Latin American nations follows a particular sequence or progression. Now the sequence was unfolding in the United States.
