Judge Steve Jones will be excellent Federal Judge

Judge Steve Jones is an excellent choice for Federal Judge.  He is a class act.   I first dealt with Judge Jones in the late 1970s when he was working in the Child Support Recovery Office for District Attorney Harry Gordon of the Western Judicial Circuit.   He was very competent and courteous.   He was respectful of my client, an elderly grandfather.

In a conversation with District Attorney Harry Gordon around the time Steve was admitted to the Bar (1987), I learned more about Steve Jones.   He said, “Steve is very smart.  He is top drawer.   ‘Mark my words’ he will be on the GA Supreme Court someday!”  

.

In 1995, I attended the swearing in of Steve Jones as Superior Court Judge by Governor Zell Miller at the Athens Classic Center.   There was a large crowd present.   As Steve presided as a Superior Court Judge, he remained the same courteous and ‘first class’ person he had been before being elevated to the bench.   He was very competent and remained a gentleman who was well respected and liked.  There was not the slightest hint of arrogance or self-centeredness that one sometimes encounters in the courtroom.

Steve Jones is very capable.   He is likable.   He is a gentleman.   Judge Jones will do an excellent job on the Federal District Court Bench in Atlanta.   It was disappointing that he was not earlier appointed to the Middle District Court for this area.   However, the Atlanta position will be higher profile and we will be seeing and hearing more from him in the future.

It has been a pleasure to know Steve Jones and call him a friend and professional colleague.   We wish him well.
