Jennifer Dawson returns from two weeks in Ukraine with Teachers for Global Classrooms Program

Jennifer Dawson has returned this weekend from a two week fellowship trip to the Ukraine as a participant in the Teachers for Global Classrooms program-funded by a grant from a bureau in the U.S. Secretary of State Department.   Jennifer was one of 68 teachers chosen nationwide and was the only teacher from Georgia.   She was part of a group of 11 teachers that went to Ukraine.

Before traveling abroad, Jennifer completed an eight-week graduate-level training program focusing on globalized learning and international project collaboration.   She attended two Global Education Symposiums in Washington, D.C., in 2012.   Jennifer is a 1989 graduate of Oconee County High School; 1993 graduate of Mercer University with a BA; and a 1999 graduate of Emory University, with a Masters of Theological Studies with Certificate in Education.

Jennifer teaches Sixth Grade AC Social Studies at Lost Mountain Middle School in Kennesaw.   She has taught at LMMS since 2000-2001. Through Social Media, (Facebook & World is a Book Blog) Jennifer’s students, fellow teachers, parents and other relatives and friends were able to follow her journey and see pictures of the schools they visited.   Jennifer has made several trips abroad to European countries, Cuba, Jamaica, Canada etc.   This one was special because it was tailored for teachers and students were involved.

Her LMMS students wrote post cards to Ukrainian students that Jennifer delivered and she brought back messages to students at Lost Mountain.   The excitement will continue as she returns to LMMS and her classroom and shares her experiences.
