WATER- QUANTITY AND QUALITY- STATE HAS RESPONSIBILITY
December 7, 2000

The Governor and the GA Legislature will take up water issues in the 2001 General Assembly.   Water Planning is one of the more pressing needs in GA.  Local governments did not build our Interstate highway system.  Counties and cities alone cannot do adequate water planning and development.  There has to be a comprehensive plan based on sound data.    All citizens and users, (domestic, industrial, commercial, forestry, agricultural, and recreational) are entitled to an equitable share of the State‚Äôs Waters.   The State has more than just a regulatory responsibility in this important area.   Community leaders need to monitor water planning and legislation by the state.
